It’s movie review day here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos. Today we’re seeing the movie, Rock of Ages.
Here’s the trailer: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=TbUfEDR0Abk]
The Verdict: Well first of all, this movie is a musical. I knew it was about music and had singing in it, but I guess I didn’t realize it was a full-blown musical. Let’s just say my husband would have HATED it. If musicals are not your cup of tea, you will probably not like the movie either.
BUT, if you loved movies like Mamma Mia or Grease, you will probably greatly enjoy this movie. Julianne Hough is fresh, adorable, and very talented. Overall, I can’t say enough about the cast. Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige, Diego Boneta, and freaking Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise’s portrayal of rocker, Stacee Jax, was SO good. The first outfit you see him in is hilariously awesome. Really, I loved every character in the movie.
This is one of those movies that is really difficult to rate. I think like Mamma Mia, every time I watch it, I will like it even more. And I want to see it again. And probably again. But it would be more of a Guilty Pleasure than a Happily Ever After. This is the kind of movie you will want to rat your hair for, then put on something bejeweled, gather up your girlfriends, and go see it. If you know 80s music or have played Guitar Hero, you will recognize most every song. Don’t be afraid to sing along!!
Just a reminder of how we rank movies here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos:
One Star = Walk of shame. I was in last night’s dress, carrying my shoes as I rushed off. I can’t believe I wasted my time on him and pray no one I know sees me.
Two Stars = Bad date. He didn’t really do anything wrong, we just didn’t have any chemistry. Maybe he just wasn’t my type. I probably won’t answer if he calls.
Three Stars =Hookup. We had a great night together. Don’t know if it will be more than that, but it was sure fun while it lasted.
Four Stars = Stalking him. What a night! We danced, we kissed. Now if I could just get him to call me.
***Guilty Pleasure: Like the decadent triple layer chocolate cake you know you shouldn’t eat, you just can’t help being drawn to him. Might as well enjoy it.
Five Stars = Happily ever after. I love him! I want to marry him, have his babies, and live happily ever after.
