Movie Review: Hope Springs

It is movie review day here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos. Today were seeing Hope Springs.

The Verdict: There is a scene in my book, That Boy, where Jadyn discovers her parents and their friends in the hot tub. She mistakenly thinks they are naked. She says to herself, Hello? Naked parents. Pot. Alcohol. I may very well be traumatized by all of this. Somebody wanna call a shrink?

That line sums up how I felt about this movie. I left feeling like I saw something I shouldn’t have seen. I’m all for a long, happy marriage filled with a fulfilling sex life. But seeing Mom and Dad, or more like Grandma and Grandpa, having sex was just a little too much. A little too real. I would say if you are around the age of Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones (both of whom I adore!), you would probably enjoy this movie. Although it made me very sad. I pray that I never have a marriage like theirs. It ended happily, thankfully. I also just spoke to a friend of my daughter, who saw this movie. She also felt very uncomfortable watching it. I guess the moral of the story is, we all like to pay good money to see the hot and fabulously sexy get it on – on the big screen, but grandma and grandpa, not so much. This movie, for me, was a bad, bad, date. A date that I really want to forget.

(If you are looking for a good movie that is similar to this that won’t gross you out. Check out, It’s Complicated.)

Just a reminder of how we rank movies here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos:

One Star = Walk of shame. I was in last night’s dress, carrying my shoes as I rushed off. I can’t believe I wasted my time on him and pray no one I know sees me.

Two Stars = Bad date. He didn’t really do anything wrong, we just didn’t have any chemistry. Maybe he just wasn’t my type. I probably won’t answer if he calls.

Three Stars =Hookup. We had a great night together. Don’t know if it will be more than that, but it was sure fun while it lasted.

Four Stars = Stalking him. What a night! We danced, we kissed. Now if I could just get him to call me.

Five Stars = Happily ever after. I love him! I want to marry him, have his babies, and live happily ever after.
