Philanthropy Thursday – Making Wishes Come True.

It’s Philanthropy Thursday, here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos. Philanthropy comes in all forms, from helping someone, letting someone cut in line at the drive thru, lending a kind ear, thoughtful words. Anything you can do to better other’s lives. There are many, many charities out there that we can donate money to, and I’m not here to tell you who to chose. I just want to share inspirational stories with you about people that have been successful in their own efforts to help others.

One of these success stories is the Pi Mu Chapter of Chi Omega at Florida Gulf Coast University. The chapter recently granted their SIXTH wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The wish was granted to sixteen year old Natalia, who wished to meet Carmindy from TLC’s, What Not To Wear. The Pi Mu Chapter raised $5860.74 to fullfill this wish. Here’s a great photo of the chapter with the check!

The wish money was raised from two main events that were held over the spring semester. One event was their third annual Chili Con Chi O, where they sold $5 tickets for an all-you-can-eat chili event. They provided chili, rice, drinks, and music, as well as holding an auction/raffle. It was a fun event and was open to the student body.

The second event was Chi O Kickball, where they sponsored a kickball tournament and allowed students to play in teams of ten. The event was very successful and everyone who participated had a lot of fun. From these two large fundraisers, they raised the money for the wish!

A special thanks to the Pi Mu Chapter for allowing me to share their story!!

You can follow along with their future efforts on their blog.

Philanthropy Thursday. This is something that I’m really excited about, but may take a bit to get going, so bear with me. If you are a Chi O active, alumni chapter, or anyone who is doing something to give back to the community in some way, I would love to share your fundraising successes on my blog. I also offer up my own book, That Boy, for you to consider using as a fundraiser. The book retails for $9.99. Your group will earn $8 per book sold.
