First Kisses

We’re feeling romantic today here at Glitter, Bliss, and Perfect Chaos. So here’s the question. Do you remember your very first kiss? What about the first time you kissed the person you’re with?

My very first kiss, we were hanging upside down on the jungle gym, when he swung toward me and kissed me. I was in third grade. There’s something so exciting about a first kiss.

I believe the reason they’re exciting is because you’re rolling the dice, taking a risk, without knowing what the outcome will be. First kisses can be awkward or amazing. Think back to some of your bad first kisses. The guy that moved in way too fast. The guy that tried to shove his tongue down your throat. The nervous guy that missed and ended up kissing somewhere between your bottom lip and your chin.

The bad first kisses make the good first kisses all worth it. Sometimes you get that amazing first kiss. The kind of kiss you can feel all the way down to your toes. Where you feel like you can see fireworks. The kind of kiss that you never want to end.

Sometimes kisses surprise you. When I was a freshman in college, I was at a bar on St. Patrick’s Day. There was a guy there whose face was painted half green. Even under the paint, you could tell this guy was hot. And he probably knew it. He was hounding all the girls in the bar for a St. Paddy’s kiss. I had never met him before. We watched him go from table to table, kissing girls, then quickly moving on. I had no desire to kiss him when he got to our table. He kissed both of my girlfriends, and when it was my turn I puckered up. I figured I’d just get it over with quickly, but when our lips met, I was surprised. He didn’t move on, and I didn’t want him to. We kissed once, stopped, looked at each other, kissed again. He didn’t kiss another girl but me that night. He was fun, sexy. We drank, partied, and kissed until dawn. Even went to breakfast together because we didn’t want the night to end. And I remember thinking, Wow.

Literally two days later, March 19th, I had a previously planned date with another guy. This guy was cute, really cute, but I thought my St. Paddy’s boy was who I wanted to be with. He was the kicker for our college’s football team, his face was even more handsome without the green paint, and we’d already had a second date. That very next day. I thought about canceling on this guy, but he was a friend of a friend, and in one of my classes, and, like I said, cute. So I didn’t cancel.

Thank goodness.

We sat on my couch and talked for a few minutes before he leaned in and kissed me. It was just a little kiss. A little kiss that I could feel all the way down to my toes. A fireworks blasting in the air, meteor showering before my eyes kiss. The kind of kiss where you feel like your kissing your future. A happily ever after kiss. The kind of kiss where you know you’ll never want to kiss another boy again. Ever. Five years later, I married him.

Below is an adorable video of a first kiss. It cracks me up.
