As you all know, I’m a self-published author. I read an article last week about the “new gatekeepers” in publishing. It used to be that an author had to convince an agent of their talents. Once they did that, the agent had to convince a publishing company to publish the author’s book. In other words, literary agents and publishing companies were the gatekeepers. The article I read was about someone who was trying to create a website that would make them the self-appointed gatekeepers of the publishing world. They want to be the one that says “this is a good book” or “this isn’t worth your money.”
In my opinion, we already have gatekeepers. And they are the people who read our books. Honest book reviews from readers can take an unknown book from an unknown author like me and turn it into a success.
I’m excited to tell you about a fun event I’m participating in. Book blogger, Katelyn Torrey, is hosting a Book Blogger Love-A-Thon. It’s basically a day where book bloggers (and those of us who love them) visit, comment, tweet, and support each other’s blogs. It is scheduled for February 17th. If you’d like more information or want to join in on the fun, just click over to Katelyn’s blog to sign up!
